Cinchona officinalis is a tree native to wet montane forests in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. Its bark has been used for Malaria treatment worldwide for centuries until the 1940’s when it was synthesized. A process of overexploitation across the Andes lead close to its extinction.
